EAST LANSING, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — The Michigan State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting by the East Lansing Police Department, following an alleged theft and stabbing, according to ELPD.
Police said the situation started at the intersection of Abbot Rd. and Lake Lansing Rd. at 6:06 p.m. on April 15 when officers were called out to a business at the crossroads regarding a theft.
They added that the call quickly evolved into a stabbing by a suspect, which then turned into an officer-involved shooting by ELPD officers.
Mid Michigan Gazette was on the scene around 6:50 p.m. and saw nearly a dozen first responder vehicles from various departments.
Officials said that there is no outstanding threat to the public.
MSP has been contacted and will be conducting the investigation, which is standard practice for officer-involved shootings.
