NWS confirms EF-0 tornado touched down near Durand during Tuesday’s storm

DURAND, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Shiawassee County, near Durand, during the storm on Tuesday night.

Officials said the brief path of the tornado started at 11:58 p.m. on April 14, near Newburg Rd., just west of Lansing Rd. They added that it moved east across Lansing Rd, causing EF-0 damage.

EF-0 ranks as the weakest on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

The destruction included downed pine trees and large tree limbs, along with some structural damage. Siding was seen off of a home, outbuilding roof panels blown off, as well as collapsed barn doors near Newburg Rd. and Vernon Rd.

NWS added that the tornado lifted at midnight just to the southeast of Newburg Rd. and south Reed Rd., where there were both downed hardwood and pine trees.

The tornado traveled 1.7 miles and had an estimated peak wind of 80 mph, according to NWS.

There were no reported injuries or deaths from the tornado.
