DURAND, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — Voters in Mid Michigan will have a choice to approve or deny a bond for Durand Area Schools that is expected to provide $30,290,000 for “building and site improvements to address identified and ongoing capital projects based on facility assessments and community input,” according to a social media post from the district.
According to information released by the school, the proposal is set up as a zero mill net tax rate increase from the current tax rate.
If approved by the community, the funds would target infrastructure upgrades and facility modernizations across district buildings, including Bertha Neal Elementary, Robert Kerr Elementary, Durand Middle School, and Durand High School, as well as broader campus site plans.
Officials emphasize that the proposal centers on critical infrastructure and facility maintenance designed to keep learning environments functional and secure.
Key priority areas that are outlined include:
- Safety and Security Improvements: Enhancements to entryways, access controls, and overall building security measures.
- Building Systems: Repairs designed to keep classrooms “safe, warm, and dry,” such as roofing, window, and HVAC updates across campuses.
- Facility & Campus Site Plans: Site and building modernizations, detailed in architectural concept plans for district buildings.
