BYRON, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — Officials at Byron Area Schools have launched a community donation drive to rebuild the district’s in-house book collection following the relocation of the Community District Library – Byron Branch from the Byron High School.
The Community District Library – Byron Branch moved into the newly constructed Burns Township building on 124 Lehring Rd.
While the move marks an exciting new chapter for the public library, it left the local school library facing a large drop in available reading materials and is actively looking for help to restock its shelves, according to a social media post from Byron Area Schools.
“With the Community District Library only able to leave a portion of the books for the school district, we are looking to build up our library volumes to offer the best selection for our readers,” the post said.
To help bridge the gap, the district is asking the community for support, by requesting donations of:
- Monetary contributions to support the purchase of new books
- Young adult reading materials to build up middle school and high school collections
- Board games to help students reinforce reading and literacy skills
Those interested can also support by purchasing books off the “Byron Area Schools Library Gift List.”
