VICTOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — A 74-year-old man from Laingsburg has died after he fell through the ice while ice fishing, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.
On March 5, 2026, shortly before 10 a.m., the county’s central dispatch received a report of a person who had fallen through the ice on Lake Victoria.
Emergency responders from the sheriff’s office, local fire departments, and EMS were called out to the scene.
When they arrived, first responders located the 74-year-old Laingsburg man in the water. The rescue team was able to recover the individual from the water and instantly began lifesaving efforts, officials said.
The victim was then transported to a local hospital by ambulance, where he ultimately passed away.
The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the deceased at this time. Officials are waiting until the family has been notified.
People are being reminded that recent changing temperatures have created dangerous ice conditions across the region. Ice that may appear solid can quickly become hazardous.
Law enforcement is reminding anyone planning to venture onto frozen lakes or ponds to use extreme caution and check conditions frequently.
