CORUNNA, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — Hundreds of people filled Nick Annese Field at Corunna High School for a candlelight vigil to share love and show support for Trenton Massey and his family.
Massey, a Corunna High School graduate, was reported missing and endangered by the Marquette Police Department on Feb. 22, 2026, after the 21-year-old had not been heard from.
MPD said he was first seen on city camera footage traveling eastbound on the city multi-use path near UP Health System – Marquette around 2:50 a.m. that same date.
Officers from the department began searching the area and later requested assistance from additional agencies. Efforts continued later into the evening, consisting of various emergency services and volunteers.

Shortly after, additional camera footage showed Massey walking the area of the Founder’s Landing Boardwalk. The time was around 3:35 a.m., when he was seen walking out onto the ice from the north Founder’s Landing Pier and then disappearing from the camera view. As of Feb. 25, 2026, this was the last known location/image of Massey.
Search efforts for Massey resumed on Feb. 23, 2026, in the area of Founder’s Landing and continued until Feb. 25, 2026. MPD added that the searches included on land, on the ice, from the air, and underwater.
The area encompassed the Founder’s Landing area, downtown Marquette, the ice/water of the lower harbor, the city multi-use path, Mattson Lower Harbor Park, and neighborhoods west of Front Street, police said.
Police have suspended search efforts pending new information. Volunteer searches may continue, but law enforcement said that people should be mindful of private property and requests that those interested should stay off the ice.
Investigation of this incident is ongoing by the Marquette Police Department.
