Two dead following weekend crash, driver suspected of operating while intoxicated

WOODHULL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — Two people and a dog are dead following a two-vehicle crash where a driver is suspected of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

According to the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the intersection of Britton Road and Shaftsburg Road on Feb. 14 around 5:53 p.m.

Officials said that the crash occurred after an SUV driven by a 38-year-old man from Laingsburg, who was traveling northbound on Shaftsburg Rd., did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection.

The 38-year-old man collided with another SUV headed westbound as it entered the intersection. The westbound SUV was driven by an 82-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman passenger, both from Laingsburg.

The elderly man and woman, along with the dog occupant, were all pronounced deceased inside the SUV at the scene.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office said. The 38-year-old man is being held at the Shiawassee County Jail for suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing death.

This is a developing story.
