Fowlerville conserving road salt amid ‘regional shortage’

FOWLERVILLE, Mich. (Mid Michigan Gazette) — Officials with the Village of Fowlerville are now having to prioritize road salt usage in certain areas over others due to a regional shortage, according to the village website.

They added that there is limited availability from salt mines in the Detroit area.

“As a result, the Village Department of Public Works (DPW) is prioritizing salt usage to ensure public safety,” the post reads. “At this time, salting operations are being limited to major intersections, railroad crossings, and traffic signals.”

Officials said that people who live in the area may notice a decrease in salting on local and residential streets. They also added that this is a necessary precaution to ensure available supplies while maintaining safety in high-traffic and other critical areas.

The village said it will continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as additional road salt becomes available.

They encourage anyone with questions or concerns to contact the village office at 517-223-3771.
